I always find it tough at the end of the school year to get students motivated and focused.
I was chatting to a group of Y12 students today at one of my schools and their focus was very clearly on the summer holidays ahead. I won't lie...I was struggling to get their engagement. We’ve all been there!
So I mentioned Glastonbury; who has been, who knows about it, and we started talking. I got up a playlist on Spotify of the headline acts over the years and we played some music in the background and talked about the best ever performers.
And we started talking about all the roles that make Glastonbury possible. I didn't push it or have a 'Careers' agenda, we just talked about what roles make a huge event like this happen. Marketing, Finance, Project Management, HR, Security, Transport, Hospitality....
We talked about what would be the biggest challenges (toilets!), how would you even manage such a huge event and they were surprised that there is a full time team who plan this event year round.
It was a very casual and comfortable Careers conversation with some good music playing in the background. And although not a 'formal session', it hopefully got the Year 12s thinking a little more about what options are out there.
Every conversation counts towards students thinking about Career options and inspiration, no matter how significant.
